چکیده

Second harmonic generation (SHG) was employed to monitor in situ the potential-induced reconstruction of Au( 111) and Au( 100) electrodes. Rotating the sample by 360” about the surface normal yields for the unreconstructed Au( 1 I1 )-( 1 x 1) SWface the well-known threefold symmetry pattern in the SHG intensity, while Au( lOO)(1 X 1) shows no rotational anisotropy, as expected for C, symmetry. For the reconstructed Au( 1 I I )( 1 X 23) surface, however, an additional onefold symmetry pattern is observed, which allows in situ monitoring of the structural transition between ( I X 1) and (1 X23). For the reconstructed Au( lOO)-( 5x20) surface, a threefold symmetry pattern was found.

Considerably Enhanced Second-Harmonic Generation in Resonant U-Shaped Nano-Structures

In this paper, we perform a detailed study of the spectral response of the gold U-shaped nano-structures for different geometrical parameters and polarizations in order to obtain significant localization factor in the wavelength 1.55 μm. The obtained near-field distribution of electric fields reveals that resonances in these nano-structures correspond to the even and odd plasmonic modes dependi...

Surface phase transition of ordered iodine monolayers on a Pt( 111) electrode as studied by normal incidence optical second harmonic generation

The spectroscopic study of electrochemical surfaces provides the modern electrochemist with the detailed information required for the interpretation of charge transfer processes at solution/ electrode interfaces. Fundamental surface reactions such as catalytic oxidation and thin film growth can depend critically upon the local adsorbate structure at the electrode surface. This adsorbate structu...

Electrodeposition of flattened Cu nanoclusters on a p-GaAs(001) electrode monitored by in situ optical second harmonic generation.

In situ optical second harmonic generation (SHG) technique was employed to investigate the shape and density of Cu nanoclusters, which were electrochemically formed on p-GaAs(001) electrode surfaces. Since GaAs is not a centrosymmetric medium, a significant portion of SHG signal arises from the bulk dipole susceptibility, but it was possible to separate a surface-induced signal from a bulk-indu...

Second Harmonic Generation Diagnostic of Layer by Layer Deposition from Disperse Red 1–Functionalized Maleic Anhydride Copolymer

Layer-by-layer (LBL) electrostatic assembly of poly-electrolytes is proving to be an increasingly rich and versatile technique for the formation of multilayered thin films with a wide range of electrical, magnetic, and optical properties. In the present work we synthesized a new nonlinear optical (NLO) maleic acid copolymer containing Disperse Red 1 moieties, built-up multilayer assemblies by a...

Ambipolar injection into pentacene field effect transistor observed by time-resolved optical second harmonic generation imaging

Ambipolar carrier injection from gold electrode into pentacene was investigated by time-resolved optical second harmonic generation (TRM-SHG) imaging. Smooth hole injection is verified by rapid decrease of the SHG intensity at the electrode edge, indicating the absence of an injection barrier. In contrast, TRM-SHG results clearly indicated the presence of electron injection from the high-work f...
